Makoto T Hayashi, Ph.D. (Program-specific Associate Professor, Kyoto University)
Makoto received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. from Osaka University, where he studied the mechanisms of DNA replication in fission yeast under the supervision of Dr. Hisao Masukata. In 2009, he joined Dr. Jan Karlseder’s laboratory at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies as a postdoctoral fellow, where he began working on telomere biology using human cell culture models. In 2015, he returned to Japan as a Hakubi Program-Specific Assistant Professor at Kyoto University, where he pursued his own research projects while hosted by Dr. Fuyuki Ishikawa’s laboratory. In 2020, he established his own laboratory as a Group Leader at the IFOM-KU International Joint Research Laboratory. Since October 2026, Makoto has led his group as a Program-Specific Associate Professor in the Department of Molecular Oncology, Graduate School of Medicine, Kyoto University.

Andrew N Osahor, Ph.D. (Postdoctoral Researcher, Kyoto University)
Expansion of FuVis system
Andrew obtained his B.S. in Molecular Biosciences from Arizona State University in 2007. He then worked as a research assistant at the Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University under the supervision of Dr. Hugh Mason, developing virus-like particles as cervical cancer vaccine candidates. He earned his M.S. in Biotechnology from the Malaysia University of Science and Technology in 2012 and his Ph.D. from Monash University in 2019, both under the supervision of Dr. Kumaran Narayanan. During his graduate studies, Andrew investigated the mechanisms of hybrid non-viral gene delivery into human cells. After visiting Dr. Fuyuki Ishikawa’s laboratory for a science symposium in 2018, he joined the IFOM-KU International Joint Research Laboratory as a postdoctoral researcher under the supervision of Dr. Makoto Hayashi in 2021. In October 2026, Andrew became a postdoctoral researcher at the Graduate School of Medicine, Kyoto University, where he continues his work in Dr. Hayashi’s laboratory.
I love Jujitsu.

Rodrigo Mohallem Ferreira, Ph.D. (JSPS Postdoctral fellow)
Omics analysis of the FuVis2 cells
Rodrigo obtained his BSc from Purdue University, majoring in Biochemistry; Cellular, Molecular & Developmental Biology; and Genetics, with a minor in Chemistry. After graduating, Rodrigo joined the Aryal Lab at Purdue University, where he obtained his Ph.D. In the Aryal Lab, Rodrigo used Mass Spectrometry-based proteomics and phosphoproteomics to study aging and age-related diseases in both cell and animal models. Rodrigo joined the Hayashi Lab as a JSPS Postdoctoral fellow, where will investigate the FuVis2 system using multi-omics approaches.
